Deconstruction (Decon) is a FREE service, provided by the Cape Fear Habitat fully insured and skilled team, to carefully remove kitchen cabinets, counter-tops and appliances prior to a remodel or demolition. Your items are then sold in the ReStores to help fund building or repairing a home for a family in need of an affordable and safe place to live. Decon helps prevent thousands of pounds of removed cabinets, countertops and more from ending up in a landfill!

How does Decon work?
CONTACT US
Call our Decon Hotline (910)-686-9800 or Email decon@capefearhabitat.org. Provide information on the items you want uninstalled and removed. We will then arrange an appointment for a consultation.
CONSULTATION
Decon team members will conduct an on-site walk through consultation to determine if the items qualify and are realistic for us. If all is suitable, then we will follow up to schedule the deconstruction.
PERFORM DECONSTRUCTION
Our fully insured and equipped team will perform the deconstruction and load all the qualifying items onto the Habitat vehicles to take to our Restores.
RECEIVE YOUR TAX RECEIPT
After the deconstruction is complete, you will receive an email of your tax receipt for your charitable contribution.

What is Deconstruction?

How Much Does a Deconstruction Cost?
This is a FREE service offered by Cape Fear Habitat ReStore. All items removed during the Decon are donated to the Habitat ReStores to be sold to the public.
Because there is no charge and the Deconstruction team saves homeowners hundreds of dollars in contractor fees, we do welcome donations to Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity.
What Items or Rooms are Suitable for a Decon?
Items must in decent, usable condition to qualify for a deconstruction. We primarily work with kitchen remodels or whole house deconstructions, but are happy to conduct an evaluation for your project.
Qualifying items include cabinets, appliances, countertops, bathroom vanities, sinks, lighting fixtures, doors, and more. If time and space allow, we may also be able to accept furniture during the decon project.
Where Do my Donated Items Go?
All donated items are taken to the Habitat ReStores, where they are resold at discounted rates. This helps to reduce the cost of home repair and maintenance for the local community and giving your items a second life.

How Do I Get Started?
The first thing you need to do is reach out to us to schedule your consultation with our Deconstruction Coordinator. We will conduct a site visit to determine if we are able to provide a Decon for your project.
After the initial consultation, we will schedule a day for our team to come out and complete the Decon.
