In an effort to provide volunteer opportunities to the greatest number of people, we would like to ask that you take a few moments to fill out this web application and submit to us via email.

We want to acknowledge the value of each volunteer who will work with us this year and make your volunteer experience enjoyable & meaningful. To that end, we need the following information.

Our volunteer opportunities include (click on each for details):

  • Volunteers visit homes to interview prospective families to determine their eligibility for our program.

  • Volunteers act as family mentors, providing our potential families with support and encouragement as they go through our program.

  • Volunteers will help organize and participate in our fundraising events.

    Special events draw attention to the need for affordable housing in our community and raises awareness of Habitat’s work, yet the ratio of work to return may be reversed.

    • identify leadership for signature fundraising event, "Golden Hammer Breakfast"
    • identify other leaders who will take ownership of smaller fundraisers and friend-raisers
  • Join us on-site Wednesday or Thursday mornings from 8 a.m to noon, or Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. No experience necessary - we will provide training. Youth under 16 years old cannot work on-site.

    New Position: Site Hosts Wanted!
    Help greet, orient andsign in our Saturday construction volunteers. Shift is 7:30am to 9:00am, Saturdays.

    Note: We ask all first-time construction volunteers to take a brief online safety course, "Volunteering On A Habtat for Humanity Job Site". Click here to take the course.

  • Help solicit and coordinate lunches from area donors, for Saturday construction volunteers.

  • Individuals required to complete academic, court-ordered, or attorney-recommended Community Service hours, must do so at the ReStore. Please contact the ReStore (910 762-4793) with your Community Service requirements to schedule service hours.

  • Volunteers will act as liaison between Cape Fear Habitat and the local church community to encourage congregational participation with our affiliate. In addition, they will plan the bi-annual pastor's breakfast.

    • solicit financial contributions from faith based groups, including past church donors
    • pursue partnerships with local congregations, synagogues, mosques and parishes and new bodies of faith
    • identify levels of past support and individual church connections, keep them engaged, connect with them and ask for continued support
  • Volunteers will research potential land and/or rehab houses that could be purchased by our affiliate.

  • Cultivation and Solicitation of Major Gifts Committee and Planned Gifts

    The term "major gift" is defined as a gift in the amount of or greater than $10,000
    • keep past major donors engaged, connect with them and ask for continued support
    • identify new prospects with the capacity to make a major gift, communicate, connect and ask for support
    • identify "peer-to peer" relationships to work with the Advisory Committee
    • finalize agency planned giving materials
    • solicit individuals from major donor list for planned gifts
  • Volunteers in our ReStore provide customer service and support. Half-day shifts are available Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. .

Volunteers are the driving force behind Cape Fear Habitat. As a community-based organization, we work with local individuals, civic groups, churches, small businesses and large corporations to eliminate substandard housing in the Cape Fear area. Read our Advisory Council Vision here.
